Rocks and Minerals
What's the difference between rocks and minerals? A rock is a composed of two or more minerals and may include organic compounds. Rocks are classified into three main groups: sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic. A mineral is naturally occurring with a specific chemical composition and has been formed because of geological processes. From a piece of mineral crystal, a gemstone (also called a gem) can be cut and polished and used to make jewelry. Interested in learning more about rocks, minerals and gems, then the study of Geology quite literally is rock science!
